The Canada Visitor Visa is an official permit recorded in your passport that shows you meet the requirements for temporary entry into Canada. If you intend to travel for tourism, visit family, or attend short-term events, you will need to obtain this type of visa.
Requirements for Obtaining a Canada Visitor Visa
To obtain a Canada Visitor Visa, you must meet the following requirements:
- Valid Passport
- Good Physical Health
- No Criminal Record
- Sufficient Financial Means
The amount of funds required depends on the length of your stay in Canada and your accommodation (hotel or staying with friends/family). - Proof of Return to Your Home Country
You must convince the immigration officer that you will return after your visit due to ties such as a job, home, family, or assets. - No Intention to Work or Study in Canada
- Invitation Letter (if required)
Note: Experience shows that many Iranians without travel history to Schengen countries face rejection.
What is the difference between Single and Multiple Entry Visas?
- Single Entry Visa allows only one entry to Canada.
- Multiple Entry Visa permits multiple entries during the visa’s validity period.
Which type of visa is suitable for me?
Generally, the Canadian immigration department issues Multiple Entry visas for most applicants. The type of visa granted depends on the applicant’s circumstances and documents.
Is Biometrics Required?
Yes. All applicants (main applicants and family members) must appear in person for biometrics. Since the Canadian embassy is not active in Iran, Iranians must complete this step in neighboring countries (such as Turkey, UAE, Armenia, Azerbaijan, or Georgia).
The biometrics process occurs after the following:
- Online application submission
- Payment of visa and biometrics fees
- Receiving the biometrics letter from Canadian immigration
Methods to Apply for a Canada Visitor Visa
You can apply for a visa using two methods:
- Online (common and faster method)
- Traditional (paper-based) method – usually for special cases
Allowed Duration of Stay in Canada with a Visitor Visa
Most visitors are allowed to stay for a maximum of six months from the date of entry into Canada.
If the immigration officer decides your stay should be shorter than six months, the exit date will be recorded in your passport.
Can I Work or Study During My Visitor Stay?
- Work: No. The visitor visa does not permit employment.
- Study: Only short courses (less than 6 months) can be attended without the need for a Study Permit.
